Around 1957, Wil Fruytier starts making tapestries. She collects textile samples in different sizes, colors and textures and fixes these samples in their original rectangular shape on a surface without cutting them.

The fabric samples are combined into a composition, often overlapping one another as building blocks. Gradually, as the samples are no longer always overlapping, empty spaces are also explored as part of the composition.

APPLIQUÉKLEDEN

Omstreeks 1957 begint Wil Fruytier met het maken van wandkleden. Zij verzamelt stalen van textiel in verschillende kleuren en structuren en deze stalen bevestigt zij in hun oorspronkelijke rechthoekige vorm op een ondergrond van doek zonder deze stalen te verknippen.

De stof-stalen worden tot een compositie samengevoegd veelal elkaar overlappend als bouwstenen. Geleideljk worden de stalen niet altijd meer overlappend geplaatst maar wordt ook gebruik gemaakt van de lege ruimten tussen de "bouwstenen".
